SOS Fest brings Caribbean energy to Markham Fairgrounds this summer

The Summer of Soca Festival (SOS Fest) is set to bring Caribbean flair to Markham this summer, taking over the Markham Fairgrounds from July 31 to Aug. 2 with music, culture, food, and community celebrations.

In 2014, organizers Andrew Lalla and Naveen Sharma created Summer of Sound Festival Inc. Together, they built SOS Fest from the ground up, shaping it into an event rooted in Caribbean culture, high-energy entertainment, and community connection.

“SOS Fest isn’t just a party, it’s a cultural reunion. Every year, thousands of Soca lovers from all over the world come to Toronto to celebrate Caribana weekend at SOS Fest,” says Andrew Lalla, co-founder of SOS Fest.

The festival opens Friday with “Colours – J’ouvert Night,” an immersive celebration featuring music, culture, world-class artists, and the vibrant tradition of play powder.

Saturday’s “Carnival Kingdom” promises a high-energy evening of performances from bands, international artists, and deejays.

“(The) Carnival Kingdom, this is the ultimate carnival concert featuring powerhouse performances from international artists, bands and deejays,” said the organizers. “From the first note to the final encore, Carnival Kingdom delivers a dynamic celebration of community, where fans come together to wave their flags, sing their anthems, and lose themselves in the magic of Carnival. It’s an unmatched production spectacle like no other. It’s the biggest night of the year… the night everyone marks on their calendar.”

On Sunday, “Revivor – The Chutney Concert” will spotlight the cultural diversity of the West Indies, followed by “Legends – The Throwback Concert,” featuring iconic hits from the 1990s and 2000s.

In addition to the entertainment lineup, attendees can enjoy a variety of Caribbean food vendors, local food trucks, and artisan pop-ups throughout the weekend.

“What really elevates the experience, though, are the added layers such as our interactive elements like curated food experiences, cultural activations, and spaces designed for connection and celebration,” Lalla says. “There’s also a strong focus on inclusivity, making sure everyone feels welcome, alongside a growing commitment to sustainability and responsible event practices.”
