Stouffville gifted 95-acre Gormley greenspace

Stouffville is gaining a remarkable new public green space with the donation of Simeon Park, a 95-acre recreational property on Woodbine Ave. The property includes an outdoor pool, picnic areas, a playground, volleyball courts, a soccer field, a baseball diamond and a lake. Its extensive natural areas also offer opportunities for hiking, snowshoeing, and enjoying the outdoors year-round.

Magna International has owned and operated Simeon Park as a private park where employees could participate in leisure, recreational and social activities. Magna and the Town of Stouffville have signed an agreement for Magna to donate the property and its facilities to the town at no cost.

“For many years, Simeon Park has been a place where Magna employees and their families have gathered, connected, and created lasting memories,” said Erin Cerenzia, Community Relations Manager at Magna. “We are so proud that it will now begin a new chapter serving the broader community and are grateful to the town of Stouffville for providing this stewardship and enhancing the park as a public asset.”

The town will begin preparing the property for public use, including assessing existing amenities and identifying any work needed to support a safe, welcoming opening. Simeon Park is expected to open to the public next summer.

“This is a truly historic and generational gift to Stouffville,” Mayor Iain Lovatt said. “Simeon Park begins a new chapter as a future public space for the residents of Stouffville. This donation protects an important green space and creates exciting new opportunities for residents and families and visitors alike to connect with nature, enjoy recreation, and build community for generations to come.”
