Sunflower Fields of Markham set to open July 25

The Sunflower Fields of Markham will welcome visitors once again starting July 25, according to owner Whitney Gauthier.

Opened in 2021 by third-generation farmers, the attraction sits on over 20 acres along Highway 48, just north of Major Mackenzie Drive. The family has farmed over 3,000 acres of land throughout York Region, Durham Region, and Ramara for over 60 years.

Gauthier said Markham was the ideal location to start her business.

“I just like the sunflowers, and I saw an opportunity based on our location because we are so close to the city, where people could come and see the flowers,” she said.

Each summer, the fields showcase more than 400,000 sunflowers. Visitors can purchase tickets online or at the gate and are welcome to stay until closing.

Guests are reminded that parking along Highway 48 is not permitted; a designated parking lot is available. Pets (except service animals), smoking, littering, and drones are also prohibited on the property.

Gauthier encourages guests to dress appropriately for the outdoor experience.

“There’s lots of walking and the fields could be quite muddy,” Gauthier said. “So, [I recommend] not to wear fancy shoes or white running shoes.”
