Country festival debuts at Markham Museum

Look forward to toe-tapping tunes and lively line dancing at Kickin’ It Country, a new summer festival happening at Markham Museum on Saturday, July 5.

Kickin’ It Country is a fantastic new addition to Markham’s vibrant calendar of summer events,” says Mayor Frank Scarpitti.

Following the success of its award-winning AppleFest collaboration in 2024, Markham Museum is once again teaming up with Rouge River Brewing Company, an award-winning Markham-based craft brewery, to host the festival.

“Celebrations like these exemplify why the City of Markham was named the 2025 Municipality of the Year by Festivals & Events Ontario,” Scarpitti says. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, support local talent and businesses, and celebrate the season in a truly unique way. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike to the Markham Museum for what promises to be a memorable evening of music, dancing, and fun.”

The festival kicks off with line dancing sessions led by Cheatin’ Hearts, a dance crew offering 45-minute lessons throughout the event. Live music takes centre stage with performances by local favourites The Beresfords and Courtney Bowles from School of Rock Markham, culminating in a headlining set by acclaimed Canadian country artist Rebekah Hawker.

Attendees can test their skills at lasso throwing with Extreme Cowgirl Susan Caldwell, capture memories at themed photo booths, and browse a curated marketplace featuring local vendors and artisans. Enjoy oversized lawn games like Giant Jenga, savour delicious local brews and bites, and step back in time with live demonstrations at the Museum’s historic Blacksmith Shop.

The festival takes place from 3 to 8 p.m. at the museum, located at 9350 Markham Rd., and is sponsored by Benczik Kavanagh Real Estate.
