Stouffville Main St. Gets Federal Funding

The Stouffville Chamber of Commerce announced that the Village of Stouffville will be participating in the My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program to help revitalize our main street, providing a total of $57,500 in non-repayable contributions to support local businesses.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), announced a $23.25-million investment to the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) and the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) to establish My Main Street — a two-year program to support the recovery and revitalization of main streets and local businesses in southern Ontario.

Area MP Helena Jaczek and minister for the Southern Ontario Federal Economic Development Agency notes that this funding is evidence that the government understands the critical supports needed by pressured downtowns like Stouffville.

“The My Main Street program offers critical funding and services for local businesses to find new ways to adapt and to create new economic opportunities for local communities to help them recover and grow. I am happy to see the positive impact that the My Main Street program will have in our community of Stouffville.”

EDCO is delivering the My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program stream, which supports the revitalization of 65 main street communities, and provides non-repayable contributions for more than 650 local businesses across southern Ontario. The program focuses on creating and maintaining vibrant and inclusive local downtowns while providing residents, new entrepreneurs, and existing businesses with economic opportunities in our communities.

The Village of Stouffville community in Whitchurch-Stouffville will be supported with a dedicated Main Street Ambassador, customized market research, data analysis and non-repayable funding contributions for new and existing small businesses.

Karen Wootten, Executive Director of the Stouffville Chamber of Commerce was also pleased with the annoucenment.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer businesses in the Village of Stouffville access to the expertise and resources of the My Main Street program through our fantastic Main Street Ambassador, Karen Mortfield. This is a great opportunity to give local businesses extra support when they need it most.”
