Fortune Leadership Council celebrates $1 million contribution to MSH

Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) Foundation’s Fortune Leadership Council (FLC) recently celebrated reaching their $1,000,000 contribution to Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital.

MSH has proudly named the orange zone in the Emergency Department in honour of FLC’s generous gift.

FLC is a network of local Chinese business leaders who came together in 2016 with a mission to raise awareness for and give back to our hospital to support its key fundraising priorities and needs.

Under the leadership of inaugural co-chairs Alan Kwong and Kenny Wan, and honourary chair Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, FLC raised its first $500,000 within three years.

In 2019, MSH celebrated FLC’s $500,000 gift and recognized it by proudly naming the paediatric outpatient clinic waiting room in its honour. At that time, the group committed to raising another $500,000 – a goal that was recently achieved thanks to the generosity of 45 lead donors.

“Today we are here celebrating the achievement of our $1 million fundraising goal because of our generous community,” says Wan, FLC co-chair and Oak Valley Health Board of Directors Community Member. “Health care is vital to all of us and our families and we are fortunate to have MSH close to home.”

It is Wan’s and Kwong’s hope to inspire others in the Chinese community to step up and support MSH.

“We are excited to announce that we have committed to raising our next $1 million donation for the hospital,” Kwong said. “I challenge other business and community leaders to join us in expanding our fundraising efforts to enable health care excellence at MSH.”

Suzette Strong, CEO, MSH Foundation alongside Jo-anne Marr, President and CEO, Oak Valley Health were on hand at the celebration and commended the contributions made by FLC.

“Hospitals rely on support from the community to sustain excellent patient care close to home. We are proud of the dedication and generosity of the Fortune Leadership Council for supporting our highest priority needs,” says Strong.
