Celebrating International Museum Day

International Museum Day (IMD) — which has been celebrated for more than 40 years — is organized each year on or around May 18.

The theme of this year’s event is The Power of Museums. The focus of the theme is to show how museums can bring about positive change in their communities through achieving sustainability, digital innovation, and community building through education.

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum will be celebrating IMD on May 21 and will be offering free admission that afternoon from 12 to 4 p.m. Come see how your local museum brings about positive change in the community and learn about all the different services that the museum offers.

Bring your family and friends to the site to explore and discover. This event also provides a great opportunity to explore a new featured exhibit, Ace Academy: Flight Experience.

On loan from the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, the exhibit opens May 7 and will run through until the end of November. Visitors will be immersed in authentic aircraft imagery and fly a realistic rendering of a biplane, first introduced in 1917.  In addition, military objects connected to Whitchurch-Stouffville will be displayed from July through November. The exhibit is included with general admission.

The museum is located at 14732 Woodbine Avenue. Hours are 12 to 4 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday. Be sure to follow the museum on Facebook: @WSMuseum.
