Winter parking restrictions, Toys for Tickets return

Area residents may still be waiting for the first dump of snow, but the Town of Stouffville is gearing up for Jack Frost’s return with a reminder about winter parking restrictions, which kick off December 1 along with the Linda Mainprize Toys for Tickets program.

To ensure effective snow clearing and to maintain safe road conditions, on-street parking is prohibited from 2 to 6 a.m. until March 31.

All on-street parking is strictly prohibited during winter maintenance operations and on-street parking permits are void during active snow-clearing activities. Residents should use off-street parking options and share regulations with visitors.

Again, this year, the Toys for Tickets program invites you to pay parking tickets by donations through December 15. “It’s a meaningful way to turn a simple parking fine into a chance to brighten the holidays for local families in need,” Mayor Iain Lovatt says. “This initiative shows the true heart of our community.”

Donations must be in their original packaging and the value of the donation before taxes must match or exceed the amount owed on the parking ticket. Proof of purchase and the ticket must be presented at the time of donation.

Donation suggestions include new unwrapped children’s toys; non-perishable food items such as canned fruit, vegetables, soups and stews; clothing for infants and children; and gift certificates for teenagers. Items can be dropped off at the municipal offices at 111 Sandiford Dr. from Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. They will be distributed through the Stouffville Lions Club and Stouffville Food Bank.
