Water plan supports land development
York Regional Council has approved the Regional ownership of a developer-funded interim water pumping station to support an area that will one day be home to 16,000 residents.
The area is located between McCowan Road and Hwy. 48.
“York Region supports a developer-funded interim water pumping station to accommodate Minister’s Zoning Orders to advance development in the City of Markham and Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville until future Regional infrastructure is in place,” says Wendy Kemp, Director, Infrastructure Asset Management, Capital Infrastructure Services, Public Works. “Regional ownership and operation of the interim facility will ensure delivery of safe drinking water to this new housing supply.”
Changes to York Region’s 2025 budget have been approved to reflect Regional costs associated with the interim facility, which will be recovered from landowners.
