Walking in support of Mon Sheong Foundation

More than 600 community members stepped up for the future of long-term care at the Mon Sheong Walk & Fun, an outdoor charity walk with a fun fair held June 14 at Richmond Green Sports Centre & Park.

Proceeds from the charity walk go towards Mon Sheong Foundation’s Because We Care capital campaign in support of new Mon Sheong long-term care centres in Markham, Stouffville and Richmond Hill.

“We’ve been raising funds to develop three new long-term care centres,” says Mon Sheong Foundation Chairman Tim Kwan. “We are proud to have completed construction of Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre in Stouffville.”

Upon the opening of eight-storey, 224-bed centre this summer, Mon Sheong’s total number of operating care beds will rise to 1,001, making it the largest non-profit long-term care operator in Ontario, he reports. The centre will host an open house on the mornings of June 27, 28 and 29 with guided facility tours available to the public.

The 320-bed Mon Sheong Markham Long-Term Care Centre, meanwhile, is on track for completion in spring 2026. “Managing multiple construction projects requires significant resources,” Kwan says. “As we move forward, we are grateful for the community walking by our side.”

The Organizing Committee extends thanks to Event Sponsor MediSystem Pharmacy, as well as the many sponsors, partners and fundraising teams for their support. Gratitude is also extended to the Committee members, Mon Sheong staff and volunteers who contributed to the event.

Mon Sheong Walk & Fun is accepting online donations until June 30. Donations of $20 or above are eligible for a tax receipt. Participants who raise $500 or more will receive a $20 Pizzaville voucher and participants who raise $1,000 or more will receive an additional PurAthletics foam roller valued at $35.

Special prizes will be awarded to participants leading the fundraising efforts in each age category. For more details about Mon Sheong Walk & Fun, visit www.mswalkandfun.com. For information about Mon Sheong Foundation, visit www.monsheong.org or follow @MonSheong on social media.
