Stouffville Main Street 5K raises funds for MSH
More than 1,300 community supporters came together for the third annual Stouffville Main Street 5K, hosted by the Town of Stouffville and the Office of Mayor Iain Lovatt. Held on Father’s Day, the event raised an incredible $330,000 for Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH)—a total that includes proceeds from the 5K and Mayor Lovatt’s Charity Golf Classic.
This year’s run was led by Sawyer Nicholson, Stouffville’s award-winning young athlete, alongside MSH’s cheerful mascot, Dr. Bear.
The Stouffville Main Street 5K welcomes both recreational and competitive participants of all ages, building awareness and support for MSH and the vital programs and services it offers in Stouffville and surrounding communities.
“The Stouffville Main Street 5K has now become one of Stouffville’s favourite events. This community has shown up year after year to raise much-needed funds for our hospital, the Markham Stouffville Hospital,” Lovatt says. “We’re very happy to support such a worthy cause.”
Health care’s complex landscape is changing, along with our growing, diverse community. Government can’t fund all of the hospital’s priority needs. MSH is committed to delivering best-in-class, integrated care, and community investment makes all the difference. Participation in fundraising initiatives like the Stouffville Main Street 5K helps equip MSH’s award-winning staff with leading-edge technology to help provide the best patient outcomes possible.
“Markham Stouffville Hospital is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. The hospital began construction on land that was so generously donated by Arthur Latcham, a Stouffville resident. We’ve come so far in 35 years, thanks largely to communities as generous and supportive as this one, that enable MSH to remain on the cutting-edge of patient care,” says Suzette Strong, CEO, MSH Foundation. “Thank you, Mayor Lovatt, Council, and the Stouffville community, for helping to bring a lifetime of care close to home.”
Donations are still being accepted until July 1 and can be made online here.
