Stouffville Spirit win inaugural Markham Stouffville Cup

Local fans got to witness history in the making as the inaugural Markham Stouffville Cup was presented to the winner of one of hockey’s most storied local rivalries.
The Stouffville Spirit and Markham Royals Jr. Hockey clubs battled it out in their fourth and final regular-season game on February 27 to see who would walk away with bragging rights and the cup.
The Markham Stouffville Cup celebrated both competitive excellence and community spirit. It also raised awareness and funds for the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, which provided the trophy.
On the momentous occasion, local dignitaries crowned the champion of this year’s rivalry series.
Stouffville Hospital Foundation coordinator Matteo Paolucci was joined by Markham Councillor Andrew Keyes and Stouffville Deputy Mayor HugoKroon to present the cup to Stouffville Spirit assistant captains Jacob Martineau, Logan Sitlani, and Evan Breckles.
The Stouffville Spirit team was the victor of the cup, but the Markham Royals made it bittersweet by winning the final game 4-3 in a tight battle to the end.
