Music, Culture, and Community: Markham Village Music Festival Returns

The Markham Village Music Festival is set to return for its 48th year, transforming the historic Main Street Markham into a vibrant hub of live music, culture, and family fun on June 20 and 21.

As York Region’s largest outdoor music festival, this beloved event draws tens of thousands of visitors from across the Greater Toronto Area, celebrating the best of local talent, diverse cultures, and community spirit.

The festival will feature five dynamic stages, presenting an exciting lineup of musical genres and performances from renowned artists and emerging local talent alike, featuring headliners Dear Rouge, Jessia,  plus Kasador, Rusty, CJ Wiley, and many more. The festivities kick off Friday evening with a Family Street Dance at the South stage, featuring a First Nations Round Dance, Pulse Dance Works, Line Dancing with Cheatin’ Hearts, and salsa with Soul2Sole. The Dance Stage on Robinson Street will showcase performances that reflect Markham’s rich cultural diversity.

Festival-goers can indulge in various culinary offerings from local vendors and food trucks, serving everything from gourmet burgers to classic poutine. The Village Market will also feature unique handmade crafts, artisanal products, and treasures from local small businesses.

There’s something for every member of the family. On Friday, visitors can check out the Classic Car Show at the north end of the street, set to the tunes of the ’50s and ’60s. On Saturday, kids can dive into the Kidz Zone with interactive games and entertainment, while parents can explore the Farmers’ Market for fresh, locally made goods. Dog lovers can head to the Dog Zone, back by popular demand, with pet-focused vendors, unique products, and activities for dogs and their humans.

In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, the festival proudly features Indigenous music, storytelling, and cultural displays. This year’s highlight is the Indigenous Legacy Art Project, featuring striking pole banners by Indigenous artist Naomi Peters, displayed along Main Street Markham.

The Markham Village Music Festival invites visitors of all ages to experience the sights, sounds, and flavours of this vibrant community event. Admission is free, and the festival is easily accessible by transit, with plenty of on-site activities and entertainment for everyone to enjoy.
