Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre receives official occupancy certificate
The new Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre received its official occupancy certificate and will start admitting residents this summer.
Janina Grabowski, the home’s administrator, said her team is excited to welcome residents to this beautiful, much-needed facility, which is tentatively scheduled to open later this summer.
“We are excited to welcome our residents to this lovely, beautiful, well-needed facility that will be carrying on in providing resident-centred care for residents.”
The facility, located at 168 Sandiford Drive in Stouffville, offers a caring, safe and resident-centred environment that follows the best practices in long-term care.
The 224-bed facility includes a ground floor spanning both wings and seven resident home areas with 32 beds each. It is one of the first care homes in Ontario to provide en-suite washrooms for both basic rooms and private rooms. In line with enhanced infection Control and Prevention (PAC) practices, the building features an individual heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system in every room.
This building will also feature an airport-style body temperature scan, allowing people to walk in without needing nurses to check for a fever. Additionally, it will have friendly robots to assist with certain healthcare tasks.
Another special feature for incoming residents who may still be feeling lonely is a pilot project of tablets, courtesy of CFO Ricky Change. “He gave us some serious money,” said Mon Sheong Foundation chair Tim Kwan with gratitude. “And we’re going to have 120 tablets. Tablets for seniors with dementia who can use them. They can interact with them, play some games, get them active.”
