Markham Fair marks 180th anniversary

The Markham Fair, one of Canada’s oldest country fairs, will celebrate its 180th anniversary this year.

Highlights of the annual event, to be held Thursday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 6, include a horse pull, demolition derby, tractor pull, midway rides, livestock shows and displays of farm animals.

Enjoy a variety of contests and competitions, including a Baby Contest, Children’s Pet Show, Teen Talent, So You Think You Can Cook and an Ambassador Contest. Discover newborn farm animals at Old MacDonald’s Barn, enjoy interactive farm-to-table demonstrations at the Agri-Food Tent, agricultural and homecraft displays and demonstrations, pony rides, monster truck rides, Faircrow’s Farm Park for the kids, commercial concessions and more.

Markham Fair is hosted by the Markham and East York Agricultural Society. The Markham Fairgrounds are located on the northeast corner of McCowan and Elgin Mills Roads. Fair hours are Thursday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
