Library unveils sensory collection for inclusive community engagement

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library has launched a new and exciting resource, the Sensory Collection, aimed at supporting and celebrating neurodiversity within our community.

This new collection has opened the doors to a world where children with diverse sensory needs can find resources designed specifically for them, offering a unique way to explore, learn, and grow.

The Sensory Collection was created in collaboration with For Little Monkeys Charity, an organization devoted to helping neurodiverse children and their families.

The project came to life with the help of the Whitchurch-Stouffville Legacy Fund. This alliance underscores a community-wide commitment to inclusion and support, fostering an environment where individuals with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, and other forms of neurodiversity can thrive.

The impact of the Sensory Collection extends beyond individual families. It represents an essential step towards embracing diversity and empowering all members of our community, especially those whose neurological differences often require specialized support.

By including Sensory Collection items in the Lendery, Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library takes a significant step in its mission to be more than a place for books. It becomes a centre for developmental support and social connection—a place where learning differences are not just acknowledged but celebrated.
