Catholic board wants to honour distinguished alumni

Do know a former Catholic school student who has made a “valuable and unique” contribution in their field, industry or community and inspires others?

If so, you can nominate the graduate or former student for a 2022 York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) Distinguished Alumni Award.

This annual program, which is returning this year, celebrates the achievements of York Catholic alumni and recognizes the role publicly-funded Catholic education has played and continues to play in their lives and in our communities.

“Since 2005, our Board has paid tribute to deserving alumni through our Distinguished Alumni Awards and we are excited to see this important program return so we can continue to recognize the valuable and unique contributions our talented alumni are making in their respective fields and in their communities, here in Canada or abroad,” says Chair Elizabeth Crowe.

To be eligible for nomination, a candidate must have been working in their field for at least two years. The candidate must also reflect in practice one or more of the Catholic Graduate Expectations while also demonstrating creative and critical thinking skills and integrated Catholic values in their daily lives as socially responsible global citizens. Finally, nominees must also have attended and graduated from a YCDSB secondary school or, if they didn’t graduate from a YCDSB school, have spent the majority of their formative years in the Board and continue to support the Board’s mission.

Anyone can nominate a former YCDSB student by completing the Distinguished Alumni Nomination Form, which is available here.  The nomination deadline is Monday, Feb. 28. Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be announced in late April and celebrated during Catholic Education Week from May 2 to 7.
