The Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum & Community Centre has opened its doors to the public once again.
The museum’s featured exhibit is Lace Up! Canada’s Passion for Skating. This is a travelling exhibit on loan from the Canadian Museum of History and is supplemented with local stories and artifacts from the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum.
The exhibit explores the history and importance of skating in Canada and gives visitors a glimpse into some of our major ice sports. Skating is an important part of our local and national identity. The exhibit is available to been seen until March 26.
While Lace Up! is on site, museum staff are taking the opportunity to incorporate the exhibit into event and program offerings.
On Saturday March 5, the museum is hosting a Family Skating Party in partnership with the town’s Recreation team. The event will include skating on the ice rink in Vandorf Park along with entry to the museum’s Lace Up! exhibit, themed crafts and activities, and a special pop-up activity by the Events team. This is a great opportunity for families to experience the museum. Registration can be accessed online through WSPlay-Online.
The museum is once again offering a March Break Camp: Lace Up! with the Museum. The camp will run March 14-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with before and after care available.
Campers will discover through exploratory activities why skating is one of our great traditions. They will get a glimpse into some major ice sports like hockey, curling and skating, conduct science experiments, create crafts, spend time outdoors and more. Registration can be accessed online through WSPlay-Online.
The museum continues to accept bookings for education programs (virtual or in-person), group tours, and rentals (including weddings). If you’re interested in additional information about any museum services, contact [email protected].
The museum is open by appointment, Wednesday to Saturday, between the hours of 12 and 4 p.m. If you’re interested in visiting the facility, call or e-mail to book an appointment: 905-727-8954 or [email protected].
