Town unveils ‘bold’ new visitor plan

The Town of Stouffville has unveiled a “bold” new Stouffville Visitor Plan (2025–2028) that includes action items like creating visitor ‘passports’ in a bid to boost tourism and position Stouffville as a “must-visit” destination for Canadian and international travellers alike.

As part of its goal of building the Town’s tourism brand and promoting events, activities and experiences, the Town has acquired the intellectual property rights to the ‘Discover Stouffville’ website and social media channels from the Greater Stouffville Chamber of Commerce.

The plan – the first of its kind for the Town – has a strong focus on developing tourism packages and outlines 26 action items aimed at enhancing the Town’s visitor economy. Priority areas include the growth of agri-tourism, the revitalization of the historic downtown core (Village of Stouffville) and the strategic promotion of Stouffville’s unique position in the Oak Ridges Moraine.

The initiative aligns with the recent establishment of the Village of Stouffville Advisory Committee, which will play a key role in supporting the revitalization of the downtown and ensuring the voices of local tourism stakeholders are part of the Town’s visitor-focused transformation, the Town reports.

The plan outlines the Town’s objectives, goals and action items to achieve its vision. Action items include developing ‘passports’ that encourage visitation under different interests, such as family, agri-tourism, foodie and adventure, and continuing to develop attractions that feature culture, heritage and Indigenous offerings.

Action items also include developing a parking strategy for the downtown area and making Main Street more pedestrian and visitor friendly with items like seating areas, more patio space and water refill stations. Other action items: establishing a unique brand in the market through the slogan, ‘We’re closer than you think’ and creating photo-worthy locations throughout the Town.

The plan was developed by a steering committee comprised of representatives from Stouffville’s tourism-related businesses and organizations, along with residents and Town staff. It was facilitated by Central Counties Tourism, the provincially-funded, not-for-profit dedicated to developing, supporting and promoting tourism within the regions of York, Durham and Headwaters through partnership, product development, strategic marketing, research and collaboration.
