Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) Foundation and Shoppers Drug Mart are proud to announce the 10th annual LOVE YOU by Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women.
For the first time ever, participants will have the opportunity to attend the Run for Women virtually or in-person on May 29 at Markham Civic Centre.
The pandemic has exposed inequities around women’s mental health, and MSH Foundation and Shoppers Drug Mart want to help.
“Healthy women are key to healthy communities, and they need our continued support,” says Teresa Givelas, Patient Care Manager, Outpatient Mental Health Programs, MSH. “Since the on-set of the pandemic, we’ve seen an increase in women in York Region reach out to us for support. Our mission is to ensure that every woman cared for at MSH — where women comprise more than half the patients seeking mental health care — is supported on her path to mental health wellness. Every dollar raised by the LOVE YOU by Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women supports mothers, daughters and friends in our community. Initiatives like Run for Women help our organization deliver and expand programs that provide women with the unique support they need.”
Proceeds from the registration fee for York Region-area participants help MSH’s Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Mental Health Services provide exceptional women’s wellness programs close to home. With thanks to Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Family Foundation, donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000. Registration also includes a legendary Run for Women finisher swag bag worth over $100, a special edition 10th anniversary technical t-shirt and bracelet.
Grateful patient Amanda Dass shares, “I was struggling with depression when I was referred to psychiatrist Dr. Rus Sethna and was cared for by the team of nurses and other health care providers who ultimately changed my life. Now I practice yoga, journaling and believe in sharing my story with others to help break down the stigma and help others know they are not alone. I encourage everyone to participate in the Run for Women Markham on May 29 to show their love and support for women facing similar challenges.”
Make a difference for the women in your community and join in on the fun by signing up at RunForWomen.ca before May 24.
