10 years of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The summer of 2014 marked a turning point in the fight against ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), thanks to a simple yet powerful act—the Ice Bucket Challenge.

What began as a modest effort to raise awareness quickly became a viral sensation, crossing borders and sparking a global movement that forever changed the battle against ALS. The outpouring of support on social media was nothing short of phenomenal, both in awareness and the funds it generated.

The Ice Bucket Challenge captivated the world, uniting professional athletes, celebrities, and everyday people in a shared mission. $115 million was raised across the globe fueling hope and driving critical research.

Now, ten years later, the momentum continues. More people than ever have joined the fight against ALS—researchers, clinicians, healthcare professionals, advocates, legislators, volunteers, and donors—all contributing to significant advancements in research, advocacy, and care. But the journey is far from over.

As we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Ice Bucket Challenge, we are reminded that the fight against ALS requires all of us to work together to achieve the ultimate goal: a world without ALS.
