Yellow Brick House provides life-saving support services and prevention programs to meet the diverse needs of individuals, families, and communities impacted by violence.
Over 6,200 women and children received life-saving support from Yellow Brick House last year and the organization has been helping those in need for more than four decades.
Violence against women has increased by 30 per cent during the COVID pandemic.
Community support to operate the two shelters in York Region, the 24/7 crisis support line and community counselling and supportive services to help women and children survive domestic abuse is needed now more than ever.
Due to the pandemic restrictions on large events, Yellow Brick House has moved its fundraising gala online this year.
“The statistics are alarming. But behind the statistics are real stories of women and children escaping domestic violence and who rely on Yellow Brick House services like shelter, legal court support, counselling and crisis intervention.” said Lorris Herenda, Executive Director, Yellow Brick House. “Our virtual gala is an opportunity for everyone to participate free of charge and for those who are able to donate, we are counting on your generosity to help us meet our goal of $200,000.”
The hour-long virtual gala which takes place May 7 will be filled with stories of survival, entertainment by JUNO award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter, Chantal Kreviaszuk and Layne The Auctionista will entertain and engage you while you bid on auction items from the comfort of your own home.
