In light of the enhanced regulations announced April 16 by the provincial government in our fight against the COVID-19 virus, the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville has closed most outdoor recreational amenities.
Effective immediately, all sports courts in the municipality, including basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts, are closed.
In addition, outdoor fitness equipment, soccer fields, baseball and softball diamonds, cricket pitches, skateboard parks, community gardens, and lawn bowling facilities are closed.
All trails, open green spaces, playgrounds, the off-leash dog park and the outdoor walking track remain open. Users are reminded to practice social distancing and to wear a mask if physical distancing becomes a challenge.
The province reversed their decision regarding playgrounds on Saturday after announcing they would close as part of the amendments Friday.
Municipal law enforcement and Parks staff will continue to enforce closures and social distancing measures stringently and follow York Regional Police’s lead with respect to random individual inspections.
If residents have any questions, the Town’s By-law Department can be contacted at (905) 640-1910 ex. 2229
