The Summer Reading Club is back at the library and is a great way for kids to practice their reading over the summer months.
Kids can let their imaginations soar with this year’s theme of “Once Upon a Time: Myths and Legends.”
The program is for ages 3-12 and is free to join; just sign up using the Beanstack reading app.
As kids spend time reading, they track their reading progress on the app which awards them with fun, virtual badges as they progress. There are also non-virtual prizes to be won, including a bicycle, a scooter, gift cards, stuffies, games and more.
By encouraging your child to read over the summer, you help to prevent the “summer slide,” the phenomenon where children who do not read during the summer break find themselves behind their classmates when school resumes.
Kids and families can set their own reading goals for the summer, and then use the Beanstack to log their reading. Additionally, the library team will be doing in-person reporting at the library and also one-on-one reading sessions with teen volunteers.
The Summer Reading Club runs from June 18 to August 25. Come out and join the fun this summer.
