Stouffville No. 13 on Canada’s Most Livable Cities list
The Town of Stouffville has risen dramatically on the Globe and Mail’s second annual ranking of Canada’s Most Livable Cities for 2024, climbing 66 spots from 2023 to No. 13.
Stouffville is also ranked the second most desirable place to live in Ontario behind the Town of Oakville, which has been ranked tenth in Canada, making Stouffville the No. 1 most livable community in York Region.
“This achievement is a reflection of Stouffville’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents,” says Mayor Iain Lovatt. “To be recognized as the top community in York Region and one of the best places to live in all of Canada is a testament to the dedication of our council, staff, businesses and residents. We should all be proud of our collective efforts to make Stouffville a community where everyone can thrive.”
According to the Globe and Mail list, there are plenty of factors that go into determining where Canadians choose to reside. Its ranking system evaluates 43 variables across 10 categories, including economy, housing, demographics, health care, safety, education, community, amenities, transportation and climate.
In addition to its overall ranking, Stouffville was named the third-best place in Canada for access to health care and the first most livable city climate. “This accomplishment highlights the vibrancy and inclusivity of our town,” Lovatt says. “Whether you’re raising a family, starting a new chapter in retirement or arriving as a newcomer, Stouffville is a place where everyone belongs. Our community’s passion and sense of pride are what set us apart.”
The Globe and Mail’s ranking included 448 cities across the country. North Vancouver, B.C. topped the list as the most livable city in Canada.
