Stouffville DAY program returns to Parkview Village

The Alzheimer Society of York Region celebrated the long-awaited return of its Stouffville DAY program to Parkview Village with a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside local dignitaries on January 23.

Parkview Village originally hosted the DAY program from 2009 until the pandemic forced its closure in March 2020. In response, the Stouffville Legion generously provided a temporary location, allowing the program to reopen in July 2021, albeit with a smaller group of attendees. The program continued there for three years.

Now back at Parkview Village, the Alzheimer Society of York Region expressed both excitement for the transition and deep gratitude to the Stouffville Legion for stepping up during a challenging time to support individuals living with dementia and their care partners.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome back clients to our home at Parkview Village and to be able to serve more families in Stouffville impacted by dementia with the addition of a fourth day of service,” said Andrea Ubell, Director of Programs and Services, Alzheimer Society of York Region. “On behalf of the team at the Alzheimer Society of York Region, we wish to express our sincere thanks to the Stouffville Legion for stepping forward during the pandemic to help ensure that the society could continue to deliver DAY programs at a difficult time. Thank you for being our home for the past three years.”

The Stouffville DAY program will now operate four days a week, serving 20 clients per day and a total of 41 families. The centre, located at 12184 Ninth Line, is open Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
