OPP stops stunt driving in Stouffville

Drivers hit speeds of almost 200 km/h on Highway 404 in the Town of Stouffville on September 13.

The Ontario Provincial Police said the 30-year-old male driver from Maple was travelling at a speed of 193 km/h in a Mercedes C300 at approximately 12:30 am.

The driver claimed he was visiting a friend in the hospital, but after being charged with stunt driving and speeding, he had to find alternative transportation after his licence was suspended.

Around 2:30 am the same morning, officers pulled over a 35-year-old female driver going 179 km/h in a Mercedes GLC 300, who said she simply wanted to get home.

The driver was also charged with stunt driving and speeding.

In both instances, the cars were towed, and each driver received a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day impound.

Drivers are reminded to follow speed limits at all times of night; saving a couple of minutes is never worth the risk.
