The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville’s Recreation team has been hard at work redesigning programs, leagues and drop-in activities so that residents can get back to playing safely under the new provincial regulations.
SoccerCity is offering indoor soccer play for adults with the York Adult Soccer League (YASL), and the Stouffville’s Recreation team has once again partnered with the WS Soccer Club to provide youth indoor options.
This youth play is offered Monday through Thursday for birth years from 2006-2018. The YASL for adults (age 18+) is offered on Mondays and those 35 years and older will find a league on Tuesday nights.
Looking for ladies only time? Then Thursday nights are your night. This women’s league has been growing rapidly and is always looking for new players. Each league provides scheduling, officiating, and league stats with individual players having the option for playing in the league and drop-in games on Thursday and Friday evenings.
If soccer isn’t your thing, the town has also resumed weekly karate, tennis, skating and dance lessons for various ages of children and youth.
You can strap on your running shoes and join the “Get in the Game” Basketball program (ages 11-15 years old) for those looking to improve their skills to join a league or school team.
For those who already have solid skills but want to take their skills to a higher level, the town offers a Basketball Skill Development Clinic (ages 11-17 years old) with qualified instructors in a 1-on-1 and small group setting that will help become the best player you can be.
For those who are unable to commit to regular play or leagues, there’s an option for you too. The town’s Gym Drop-In programs cover a wide variety of play including badminton, pickleball, Tot-Spot, volleyball and family gym time.
Public Skating times will be opening soon at the arenas, and the Fitness centre has adapted their layout to allow for safe physical distancing while taking classes and while working out on the equipment.
Pre-registration is required for all activities at this time. Masking and other COVID-19 safety procedures are in place for the safety of all. For more information, schedules and registration for these and other recreation opportunities, visit www.townofws.ca/active or call 905-642-PLAY.
