MSH Fortune Ball Brings Tradition, Celebration and Giving into the Spotlight

The annual Markham-Stouffville Hospital Foundation gala is often seen as the high point of the social season in Markham and Stouffville. But the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised this year at the Fortune Ball – a partnership with leaders of the Chinese-Canadian business community, suggest it is also the fundraising high point of the year.

With calls from the podium from Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt to dig deep to come as close to the $800,000 as possible, attendees did just that in support of an ongoing campaign to provide state-of-the-art equipment and technology for surgery, diagnostic imaging and emergency medicine at the hospital.

Against a backdrop of modern traditions of Chinese Culture and music and a Beatles tribute band rounding out the entertainment, Markham-Stouffville Hospital Foundation CEO Suzette Strong was effusive in her praise for the people of the Markham and Stouffville communities, giving them credit for their donations and compassion.

“Markham Stouffville Hospital relies on the compassion of the community to keep at the forefront of technological advancements and deliver life-saving care when it matters most” she noted in her remarks. “Government cannot fund all top priority needs – so we rely on the support of our community to help bring a lifetime of care, close to home”.
