Family Day fun offers activities for every age

Family Day is all about time together, and on February 16 families can mark the occasion by enjoying hands-on art, outdoor fun, and free community events that turn a winter holiday into a day of shared memories.

Families can explore their creative side at the Varley Art Gallery during the Family Day Canvas Challenge, open to ages four and up. Taking place from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the $80 program, priced for up to a family of four, includes a gallery tour followed by a studio painting session inspired by the current exhibitions.

For those eager to enjoy some time on the ice, Springvale Church will host a free Family Day Skate at Stouffville Arena from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The morning includes skating and hockey on the ice pads, as well as Tim Hortons coffee, hot chocolate, Timbits, crafts, and giveaways.

Ramani Real Estate will also present Family Fun Day at Pause Awhile Equestrian Centre, featuring pony rides, games, and other family-friendly activities. Entry is $5 per family. “This family day event gives families an affordable way to make memories together while directly supporting the Whitchurch-Stouffville Food Bank and the neighbours who rely on it,” says Imraz Ramani.

Families looking to embrace the winter weather can enjoy scenic trail walks along Rouge Valley Trail at Toogood Pond or explore Milne Dam Conservation Park. Skating will also be available at the Markham Civic Centre from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Stouffville Library will mark Family Day with free drop-in activities for all ages, including a musical performance by Shari Tallon, story time with picture books, crafts, face painting and tattooing, and Perler bead activities.

Those wanting to start the celebrations early can visit the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum, which is hosting its Family Day event on February 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors can explore historic buildings and exhibits, participate in snowshoeing and crafts, enjoy free hot chocolate, and take part in horse-drawn wagon rides.
