Library offers creative workshops, screens Canadian film

Stouffville Library is rolling out a lineup of engaging programs for adults and teens this April, featuring a Canadian film screening and hands-on creative workshops.

In celebration of National Canadian Film Day, the library will host a free drop-in screening of BlackBerry on April 15 from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. in the Adult Program Room. The film chronicles the dramatic rise and fall of the groundbreaking Canadian tech company that once transformed global communication before facing intense competition from Silicon Valley. The screening is open to adults and offers a chance to celebrate Canadian cinema in a welcoming, community setting.

Later in the month, adults can get creative at the DIY Terrarium: Advanced workshop on April 21, running from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will explore terrarium design, plant care and layering techniques while crafting their own miniature glass garden to take home. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required. Registration is $10.

On April 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., teens and adults aged 16 and older can take part in Machine Sewing: Upcycled Denim Handbag in the library’s Makerspace. The workshop guides participants through transforming old jeans into a functional tote bag while learning about upcycling as a sustainable alternative to fast fashion. Machines and materials are provided. Registration is $10.

Together, these programs offer meaningful opportunities for creativity, learning and connection throughout the month.
