Latcham Art Centre launches exciting lineup of art programs

Summer is flying by, and Latcham Art Centre is gearing up for a vibrant fall season filled with returning favourites and exciting new programs for all ages.

Creative Foundations 1 (Ages 5–8) and Creative Foundations 2 (Ages 9–11) return on September 13 for a 13-week journey into hands-on art making. These immersive classes give young artists the chance to explore various techniques and mediums, all leading up to a final studio art show where they can proudly showcase their work to family and friends.

Also returning on September 13 is the ever-popular Latcham Saturdays (All Ages) — a free, drop-in art activity program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on select Saturdays. Each session features a different project.

For adults, Exploring Watercolour for Beginners and Intermediates (Ages 18+) begins September 18 and runs for 12 sessions. Whether you’re just starting or looking to build on existing skills, this class provides a relaxing and inspiring introduction to watercolour painting.

Digital Art programs also make a return, with sessions available for youth (Ages 9–13) and adults (18+) beginning September 17. These 6-session courses use iPads and Procreate to explore the world of digital creation — no experience needed, and all materials are provided.

New this year: Acrylic Painting for Beginners (Ages 18+) launches September 16 with six sessions designed to introduce the fundamentals of colour mixing, values, and brushstroke techniques. Students will complete a final painting by the end of the program — no prior experience required.

Latcham is also offering Portfolio Prep (Ages 15 – 17) for those thinking of applying to a fine arts college or university program. Starting on September 16, these 11 sessions are designed to help you prepare for your admission. Students will create new pieces of artwork to include in their portfolio, develop interview skills, receive guidance from a professional artist-educator and learn techniques for organising and presenting portfolio pieces.
