A plan to revitalize Stouffville Village will see the launch of a new program that encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to enter the business world.
The Stouffville Village Small Business Challenge is offering up to $50,000 to kick-start the career of a lucky program participant, helping them establish their business in the heart of Downtown Stouffville.
Presented through a partnership between the Office of the Mayor and the Greater Stouffville Chamber of Commerce, the challenge is designed to foster entrepreneurial spirit and support local business through innovation and ambition that will contribute to the diversity and energy of the village’s downtown shopping area.
“Stouffville has a rich tapestry of community spirit and innovation,” said Mayor Iain Lovatt at the program launch. “This challenge is about more than just funding; it’s about building connections and fostering a supportive environment for entrepreneurs to thrive.”
Along with the funds that will be used to establish their business, the winner will also have access to experienced local business leaders through the chamber to gain insight and guidance as they bring their vision to life.
The competition is open to everyone and applications are now being accepted through www.townofws.ca/smallbiz. The application deadline is Feb. 15. The winner will be announced next spring.
Applicants must present a clear and detailed business plan, including business vision, target market, financial projections and marketing strategies.
Once all the applications are received, a list of finalists will be compiled and a group of judges will select the winner.
The successful candidate will be selected on the following criteria:
Innovation and Creativity: How unique and original is the business idea?
Community Impact: How will the business contribute to the vibrancy and diversity of Main Street?
Feasibility and Sustainability: Is the business plan realistic and financially viable? Presentation and Planning: How well thought out is the business strategy?
“This initiative presents a pivotal moment for Stouffville Village,” said Greater Stouffville Chamber Executive Director Christian Buhagiar. “By empowering local entrepreneurs with the resources and mentorship they need, we are not only helping to launch new businesses but also enhancing the vibrancy and economic diversity of our community. Together, we are building a thriving future for Stouffville.”
