Glimmer of Hope Golf Tournament returns to support Epilepsy York Region
Glimmer of Hope will return for its 6th annual golf tournament on August 20 at Angus Glen Golf and Country Club, with proceeds benefiting Epilepsy York Region (EYR).
In 2019, the Glimmer of Hope golf tournament was founded by Dianna and Peter Lesti with a group of close family and friends. The inspiration came from their son, Alexander Lesti. At just three years old, Alexander experienced dozens of seizures, and the Lesti family found vital support from EYR—support they continue to rely on today. Their commitment has helped turn the event into a meaningful fundraiser for the organization.
EYR, a nonprofit agency founded in 1988, supports individuals and families across York Region affected by epilepsy. Its mission is to provide advocacy, education, and inclusive programs, including community outreach, mental health services, training, camps, and support groups.
Golfers will enjoy a BBQ lunch and fun day on the links, with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. A family-friendly carnival will also run alongside the tournament, giving children and families a chance to enjoy games and connect with others.
The dinner begins at 7 p.m., where attendees can enjoy a gourmet meal, entertainment, silent auction, and powerful speeches aimed at raising epilepsy awareness.
Glimmer of Hope committee member Dianna Lesti reflected on community engagement: “The event brings people together for a shared cause, fostering a sense of unity and belonging. It also educates people about epilepsy, helping reduce stigma, and increase understanding.”
Claudia Cozza, executive director at EYR, highlighted extended mental health supports: “Of course, it is the inspiration and primary funder of our unique and inclusive Glimmer of Hope Summer Camp. It has also provided us with the means to extend our programming to include mental health supports and to help our community learn of ways to live well while living with epilepsy.”
