Discover, create, connect: A month of innovation at Stouffville Library

Stouffville Library is bringing the community together this May with a dynamic lineup of events for residents of all ages.

One of the highlights of the month is the return of Maker Festival on May 23 from noon to 4,p.m., a vibrant celebration of creativity and hands-on learning. The festival invites the community to discover, create, and connect through interactive activities led by local makers, artists, hobbyists, and tech enthusiasts.

Visitors can explore a wide range of interests, from technology and robotics to crafts, DIY projects, and entrepreneurship. Whether you’re trying something new, meeting local innovators, or simply getting inspired, Maker Festival offers a fun and engaging experience for all ages and skill levels.

Also featured is Jane’s Walk Whitchurch-Stouffville, taking place on May 2 with two guided walks available led by Fred Robbins. The Inside Out walk begins at 10:30 a.m. from 6379 Main Street, while the Heritage District walk begins at 1:30 p.m. (meeting point TBA on library website). These community-led walking conversations encourage participants to explore their neighbourhoods, share stories, and discover new perspectives inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs.

Rounding out the month is the Repair Café, happening on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Offered in partnership with NewMakeIt and York Region, this free event brings together community members and skilled volunteers to repair broken household items, helping extend their lifespan and reduce waste. From small appliances and clothing to jewellery and toys, the Repair Café promotes sustainability while fostering a spirit of collaboration and learning.

Together, these events reflect the library’s ongoing commitment to providing spaces for creativity, learning, and community connection.
