Adventure Relay showcases Oak Ridges Moraine while supporting trail conservation

The Oak Ridges Moraine Adventure Relay returns on June 13, bringing together athletes and outdoor enthusiasts from across Ontario for a one-day, multi-sport challenge in support of the Oak Ridges Trail Association (ORTA).

Spanning roughly 160 kilometres from Rice Lake to Aurora — with a shorter half-relay option along the eastern course — the event blends canoeing, cycling and trail running across some of the most scenic landscapes on the Oak Ridges Moraine.

More than just a race, the relay highlights the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship. Proceeds support ORTA’s ongoing efforts to maintain more than 280 kilometres of trail, helping ensure safe trails for thousands of Ontarians year-round and for generations to come.

Since its debut in 2007, the Adventure Relay has grown into a signature event for the region’s outdoor community. Organizers say this year’s edition is expected to be the largest yet, with hundreds of participants, along with volunteers, families and community groups, taking part across multiple municipalities, including Stouffville.

“This year is expected to be the biggest yet— drawing 250-400 racers, volunteers, supporters, families, and local organizations across multiple municipalities in a collaborative effort to celebrate the Moraine,” says race director Jacquelin Heichert.

The event not only raises critical funds for ORTA’s mission, but also fosters a strong sense of connection among participants who share a passion for nature, recreation and protecting the Moraine.
