Local golf tournament raises funds for Epilepsy York Region

Golfers can enjoy a day on the course while supporting a meaningful cause when the Glimmer of Hope Golf Tournament returns for its seventh annual event on Aug. 19 at Angus Glen Golf Club. Proceeds will benefit Epilepsy York Region (EYR), helping fund the Glimmer of Hope Summer Camp, essential support programs, and epilepsy awareness initiatives.

Participants can look forward to a BBQ lunch and a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Raffle and 50/50 tickets will also be available for purchase during registration.

The tournament was established in 2019 by Dianna and Peter Lesti, along with family and friends, in honour of their son Alexander. At the age of three, Alexander experienced dozens of seizures each day. The Lesti family found vital support through EYR and has remained connected to the organization ever since. Their commitment inspired the creation of this fundraising event that continues to make a lasting impact in the community.

“The Glimmer of Hope Golf Tournament has inspired a lasting commitment among participants, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters to help build a more inclusive and supportive community for individuals living with epilepsy,” says Claudia Cozza, EYR Executive Director. “Its impact extends far beyond the day of the event. The funds raised enable us to deliver essential programs and services while advancing awareness, education, advocacy, and community engagement.”

Over the past five years, funds raised through the tournament have enabled nearly 100 children to attend Glimmer of Hope Summer Camp at no cost to their families. Proceeds have also supported EYR’s monthly art therapy program and book club, which serve approximately 100 participants each year.
