Learn how to prepare for an emergency

York Regional Police (YRP) will be hosting a Police and Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) Open House at the Community Safety Village in partnership with York Region.

The event, which takes place on May 9, features rides in a mini firetruck, police motorcycle demonstrations, community booths, food trucks, and police, paramedic, and fire services displays.

Registration is now open. There are two time slots to choose from: 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. The cost is $10 per vehicle in support of The United Way. The event will take place rain or shine. Take your email confirmation as your entrance ticket.

The Community Safety Village is located at 3291 Stouffville Rd. Free parking is available at the Tree Top Trekking and west parking lot inside Bruce’s Mill Conservation Park. You must travel via a York Region Transit shuttle bus from the west parking lot to the event to gain access. Buses are accessible and stroller-friendly. You will not be allowed to walk on the roadway to the event due to safety concerns.

EP Week is a national awareness initiative and an opportunity for you to take action to ensure you’re prepared to protect yourself, your family and your community during an emergency, the federal government says. This year, EP Week is May 3 to 9. The theme is Be Prepared. Know Your Risks. You’re encouraged to understand the risks in your area and learn what actions you can take to protect yourself and your household.
