Recycling collection moves to biweekly schedule
Recycling collection here will move from a weekly to a biweekly schedule beginning December 31 as each household receives a cart designed to hold two weeks of recyclables.
Residents will now be able to recycle more materials, as the 360-litre wheeled, lidded recycling cart is also designed to accommodate a broader range of accepted materials, including hot and cold beverage cups, black plastic containers, frozen juice cans, ice cream tubs, and deodorant and toothpaste tubes.
The expanded list of materials will increase the volume of recyclable materials generated and collected from households. All materials must be placed inside the newly-issued recycling carts, with the lid fully closed to be ready for collection pickup. Material placed outside the recycling cart will not be collected.
If the cart size doesn’t meet your needs, you can request an exchange for a smaller-sized one by completing the Recycling Cart Exchange Request Form. You’re encouraged to use your 360-litre recycling cart for at least three bi-weekly pickups to understand your needs before requesting a smaller size. Only one cart exchange is permitted per address.
Blue box materials, especially cardboard, must be broken down and flattened to support using the space efficiently. Residents requiring a second cart will be able to request one starting January 1, 2026. If another recycling cart is deemed necessary, a second cart will be provided at no cost.
While collection frequency changes from weekly to biweekly, your pickup day will remain the same. Visit www.circularmaterials.ca/n6stouffville/ to learn more.
