Public school board and Local 514 ratify agreements

Public school board staff who provide English as a Second Language and Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) are working under a new four-year collective agreement.

“We are pleased with the gains that were made during this round of bargaining and look forward to another safe and successful school year supporting York Region District School Board (YRDSB) adult learners,” says OPSEU/SEFPO Local 514 President Susan Richarz.

Local 514 includes about 80 members in such roles as Adult Non-Credit Instruction and Citizenship Instruction at YRDSB. Additional roles are joining Local 514, including Pathways Coaches, Assessors and Resource Support.

“I would like to thank the bargaining team from OPSEU/SEFPO Local 514 and YRDSB for working over the summer months to reach a deal,” Board Chair Ron Lynn says. “We appreciate the hard work of our OPSEU staff members who provide various adult instructional roles and look forward to the school year ahead.”

The agreements include items bargained locally. As part of the School Boards Collective Bargaining Act, the local agreement will be combined with the centrally bargained terms of the provincial agreement.
