Police service a Top 100 Employer again

For the seventh consecutive year, York Regional Police (YRP) has been recognized as one of the Greater Toronto Area’s (GTA) Top 100 Employers (2022).

The designation that applauds employers leading their respective industries in offering exceptional places to work.

“To be named one of GTA Top 100 Employer is an honour for YRP,” says Chief Jim MacSween. “We work hard to ensure our members are supported, have access to health and wellness programs and feel welcome and included in a professional environment.”

The Top 100 Employers project recognizes employers with exceptional human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies.

Employers are graded on eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time-off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in the GTA. Employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector.

In addition to working from home and enhanced pandemic safety and mitigation protocols for onsite employees and police personnel, YRP established a dedicated pandemic information page on the corporate intranet as well as a hotline and support email to receive and respond to employee questions in a timely fashion.

It’s one of the few police services in Canada that has licensed clinical psychologists on staff to provide members with rapid access to consultation services, training programs related to mental health and the expertise to advise on mental health policy and planning.

YRP also offers benefits that provide maternity and parental leave top-up payments for employees who are new mothers as well as a parental top-up for fathers and adoptive parents. Its pension that helps employees plan for the future with contributions to a defined benefit pension plan and retirement planning assistance

YRP has 2,377 full-time and 85 part-time employees. It was also selected as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People (2021). The Greater Toronto’s Top 100 Employers competition is an editorial project by Mediacorp Canada Inc., the nation’s largest publisher of employment periodicals.
