Overnight theft from vehicles increases

After a re-emergence of overnight thefts, York Regional Police reminds citizens to be cautious when leaving valuables in unattended vehicles.

Suspects walk up to vehicles parked on the street and in driveways before entering them to steal valuables, sometimes breaking windows. Thieves are stealing cash, wallets, credit and bank cards, and other small items of value.

This type of theft occurs all across York Region.

Consider installing security cameras, and don’t leave anything valuable inside unattended vehicles. Always lock your vehicle and, when possible, lock it in a garage.

Criminals are opportunists. Do not allow them to make you a victim of crime.

If you witness suspicious people or activity, contact the police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7244, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
