Local ringette competition attracts 55 teams

The Markham-Stouffville Ringette Association (MSRA) hosted the province’s largest U12 Ringette tournament in March.

The opening ceremony, which took place on March 28 at the Centennial Community Centre, included an athlete parade and remarks by Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt. The evening concluded with great local entertainment.

Fifty-five ringette teams with over a thousand participants from across the province engaged in four days of competitions in the Markham and Stouffville communities.

Round-robin games were held on March 28-29 at Angus Glen Community Centre Arena, Thornhill Community Centre, and Stouffville Clippers Arena. The finals occurred on March 31 at Angus Glenn Community Centre Arena, followed by medal ceremonies. The Guelph Predators went home with the first-place medals.

MSRA celebrates its 40th anniversary this season, and the sport of ringette is celebrating 60 years since it was founded in North Bay, Ontario.
