Library provides fun learning opportunities

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library is ready to make your month of May marvelous with fun and educational programs.

Tapping Little Toes is a half-hour program for children aged 2.5-4 and their caregivers that incorporates music into the entire session. The program will feature music-based books, rhymes, songs, puppets, musical instruments, and movement.

This program is available from May 2 to June 27 and will be presented from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. live on Facebook. Email [email protected] or at 905-642-7323 ext. 5228 for more information.

On Wednesday evenings beginning May 26, children can join Miss Anne as she reads a bedtime story from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Facebook Live.

Get into your pyjamas, grab a snack and listen to a classic story being read aloud, chapter by chapter, over a number of weeks.  This program is for children aged 2-6, but all are welcome.

For older library patrons, the library is providing a writing workshop and sign language lessons.

On May 6 at 7 p.m., WSPL welcomes MJ Moores, a member of the Writers’ Community of York Region, who will be offering a free Zoom writing workshop.  The Mastering the First 2 Pages workshop is an intense look at what readers, agents and publishers look for in the first two pages of any story. Email [email protected] or at 905-642-7323 ext. 5237 to register.

For those that have always wanted to learn another language, the library has the perfect course starting on May 27.

This introductory American Sign Language Course, lead by Anne Houle, will teach participants topics such as introducing oneself, exchanging personal information, talking about surroundings, telling where you live, talking about your family and your hobbies, and giving directions.

The course runs from May 27 to June 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Cost is $25.00 per participant.  To register, go to WS Play Online: https://ca.apm.activecommunities.com/townofws/ and search for barcode number 16724.
