Latcham presents Meera Sethi’s Facing Material

Latcham Art Centre presents Facing Material, its fall exhibition of artwork by artist Meera Sethi.

Across a range of media, her deep investigation into cloth takes us from playful surface ornamentation into interrogations that reveal themes of connection, labour, craft, and community. She asks us to consider what it means to make contact with material as a carrier of history, memory, place, grief, and resilience.

The exhibition includes soft sculpture installation, paintings, drawings, and the artist’s most recent tape-based Draweaves. Immersing viewers in an intricately constructed and richly patterned world, Sethi’s work reframes textile as a mode of communication.

Born in New Delhi, Sethi is a Toronto-based artist with a process-oriented, interdisciplinary, and research-based practice that moves between painting, drawing, sculpture, illustration, performance, and social practice. Her work sits at the intersection of the body and cloth, with a particular focus on South Asia and its diasporas. Facing Material runs from September 16 to October 26.
