Fire & Emergency Services receives national award

Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services is the 2025 recipient of the Bringing Safety Home Award from the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Sprinkler Initiative.

The award honors fire safety advocates who diligently promote the importance of home fire sprinklers, use HFSC and NFPA resources to educate decision makers, and recognize that protecting all new homes could have a tremendous impact on public safety and community risk reduction.

Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services was selected for its ongoing efforts to increase the use of home fire sprinklers in new residential developments. Working in close partnership with the Town’s Building and Planning departments, the team has engaged with local developers and introduced meaningful incentives for installing sprinklers across entire subdivisions.

To date, those efforts have resulted in four subdivisions protected with sprinklers, with two more developments set to follow in the near future. “This award reflects the hard work and collaboration between our fire service, Town staff and developers,” says Fire Chief William Snowball. “Installing home fire sprinklers is one of the most effective ways to protect families and we’re proud to be leading that change here in Stouffville.”

In recognition of this achievement, Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services has received a $1,000 stipend to support ongoing public education and advocacy around home fire sprinklers. “This national recognition reflects the outstanding leadership and dedication of our Fire & Emergency Services team,” says Mayor Iain Lovatt. “Their commitment to public safety is helping shape a stronger, more resilient Stouffville.”

HFSC develops and provides non-commercial, educational resources that highlight the life safety benefits of protecting homes with fire sprinklers. The NFPA’s Fire Sprinkler Initiative is an effort to require the use of home fire sprinklers and the use of fire sprinkler requirements for new construction.
