Latcham Art Centre unveils diverse lineup of fall art programs

Residents of all ages can explore their creativity this fall as Latcham Art Centre launches a wide range of returning favourites and new artistic opportunities for children, youth and adults. From painting and watercolour to calligraphy and open studio sessions, the upcoming lineup offers something for beginners and experienced artists alike.

Creative Foundations (ages 5–8) begins Sept. 19 and runs for 11 Saturday sessions from 10 a.m. to noon. Creative Beginners (ages 9–11) starts Sept. 24 and runs for 10 Thursdays from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. This immersive experience is the perfect program for your child’s creative journey. They will get the opportunity to explore different ways of art making and have an art show in the studio at the end of the season to showcase their amazing work to family and friends.

Teens can discover acrylic painting during Youth Paint Night (ages 12–17) on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will enjoy a fun, relaxed evening in the studio while learning painting techniques with guidance from an instructor. All supplies are provided, and no previous experience is required.

Adults looking to refine their lettering skills can join professional lettering artist Erica Pinto for Brush Calligraphy for Intermediates (ages 18+) on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This workshop is designed for anyone who has taken a beginner-level brush pen calligraphy class and is ready to take their skills to the next level. In this two-hour session, students will practice uppercase letters and learn how to use these in combination with lowercase letters and words. They will also learn how to enhance their calligraphy by experimenting with simple flourishes. All materials will be provided.

Due to growing demand, Exploring Watercolour for Beginners and Intermediates (ages 18+) has expanded to offer additional class times. Beginner classes are available Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Sept. 29 and Thursday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 17. Intermediate classes begin Sept. 17 and are offered Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. Professional artist-educators Sarka Buchl Stephenson and Meral Altinbilek will lead participants through an amazing watercolour experience.

Adults can also take advantage of Open Studio (ages 18+), a free program offered on select Mondays. The sessions provide dedicated studio space for participants to work independently on personal art projects while connecting with fellow artists. Although no formal instruction or materials are provided, the bright, spacious studio offers a welcoming environment for creativity and artistic growth. Participants must bring their own supplies and remove their artwork after each session. Solvent-based oil paints, resins and other materials that pose health or safety concerns are not permitted.
