New long-term care centre accepting applications

Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre in Stouffville is now accepting resident applications through Ontario Health atHome.

Mon Sheong Foundation’s new care home, located at 168 Sandiford Dr., is expected to welcome its first residents in July.

“Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre is our second care home in Stouffville, coming just four years after Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre,” says Foundation Chairman Tim Kwan. “Construction began in fall 2023 and is expected to wrap up in May 2025, one year ahead of the original schedule.”

The eight-storey building will provide 224 new care beds and will help ease the “urgent demand” for long-term care, he reports. “Today, Ontario Long Term Care Home Association reports that nearly 48,000 people are waiting for long-term care in the province. There are over 8,500 individuals waiting for a placement at Mon Sheong’s four Long-Term Care Centres in operation. We look forward to expanding our quality care services to more seniors in need.”

The Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre offers enhanced infection prevention and control measures, with individual heating, ventilation and air conditioning units installed in every room. The care home is reportedly one of the first in Ontario to provide en-suite washrooms in both basic and private accommodations.

Applications and admissions to long-term care homes across Ontario are managed by Ontario Health atHome. Care coordinators at the provincial agency will assess the care needs and determine eligibility of all applicants and help with the application process. Details on the application and admission process are outlined in the Guide to Placement in Long-Term Care Homes or by calling Ontario Health atHome at 310-2222 (no area code required).
