A 37-year-old man was arrested shortly after a Whitchurch-Stouffville woman returned home to find the suspect in her house, which had been ransacked. He pushed her out of the way and fled the scene, travelling south on McCowan Road, in a black pick-up truck. Money and electronics were taken in the incident, which took place shortly after 11 a.m. on Jan. 23.
The suspect placed outdoor furniture against the house, located near McCowan Road south of Mount Albert Road, to gain access through a window. When an officer on patrol attempted to stop the suspect vehicle near Hwy. 48 and Cherry Street, it left the roadway and the suspect escaped on foot.
With the help of the Canine and Emergency Response Unit, the suspect was found inside a garage of a nearby residence and taken into custody. The stolen property was found in the truck, which had been stolen earlier that day from the Town of Georgina.
Ryan Crozier (pictured) of no fixed address was charged with two counts of break and enter, assault, theft of motor vehicle and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime. He was held in custody and scheduled for a bail hearing on Jan. 24.
