If the thought of public speaking leaves you weak kneed, you’re not alone. But you can learn how to overcome that fear and develop valuable leadership skills with the help of Stouffville Toastmasters Club.
“Toastmasters will help you foster your skills in public speaking and presentation mastery, motivation, leadership, coaching, team leadership and communication,” says Brian Parrott, Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville finance director. “Practice is a key success factor and Toastmasters practise regularly in a positive and supportive environment,”
As corporate sponsors, the town is reviving the club, which disbanded late last year.
“While the town will support the club, it is still public and open to all members of the community,” said Parrott.
The new Stouffville club will meet every second and fourth Thursday of the month. The first is at 7 p.m. on June 14 in the Stouffville Room at Whitchurch-Stouffville Town Hall, 111 Sandiford Dr. It will be for informational purposes and will demonstrate a shorter Toastmasters meeting. The second meeting is on June 28. All are welcome to attend.
“The world needs leaders,” says Parrott. “Leaders head families, coach teams, run businesses and mentor others. These leaders must not only accomplish, they must communicate. Toastmasters gives us the opportunity to learn, practice and achieve.”
Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of 16,400 clubs in 141 countries. The organization has more than 352,000 memberships.
